Fitting driveshafts and shortened caliper springs

Tonight I managed to fit the driveshafts with caliper mounting bolts and also the calipers to check the alighment with the rear discs on.

I also removed the existing caliper springs, bent the handbrake levers down approx. 5mm and refitted the 2 coil springs.  This is because I am hoping to get 13” wheels if I can afford them.

Painting driveshaft

I didn’t do much tonight.  I only painted one of the driveshafts to match the other one and painted the rear caliper brackets.

Sealing the floor inside the car

Tonight I put a bead of floor sealant at the joint between the chassis rails and the floor inside the car.  This was to stop any water, should the car get wet, getting into the chassis where the floor rivets are.

I can’t do much on the loom until I get the wiring drawing from MK.  Also need to source some relays and figure out how I am going to fix the relay holders behind the dash.  More research needed.

Another trip to MK

I had the day off so drove to MK to collect some bits.  I picked up the electric reverse motor, fuel tank, seats with carbon headrests, seat runner, gear link kit, harnesses, wiring harness and modified GSXR wiring loom.

I drilled the holes for the fuel tank ensuring that the tank would not be in contact with anything, including brake pipes, when fixed.  Need some longer bolts before I can fully fix.  I also fitted the GSXR fuel pump which just bolted straight in and uses the existing o-ring as a seal.

I also fitted the electric reverse motor.

First work on GRP panels

Spent a bit of time playing with the GRP panels today.  I notched out the bulkhead so it now fits in position and also notched out the scuttle panel.  This was done by stitch drilling, cutting with a hacksaw and filing with a metal file.

I am waiting on driveshaft, fuel tank, seats, harnesses, reverse motor and wiring loom from MK so there isn’t much else I can do at the minute.  Picking parts up tomorrow!

Radiator bracket continued and new spark plugs

Today I completed a few outstanding jobs on the engine.  I continued to clean the old gaskets from the sump and clutch cover using a razor blade, being very careful to ensure the aluminium was not damaged.  The clutch cover gasket took ages but the gasket remover spray I bought seemed to help.  Once both were clean I installed them with new gaskets and Loctite gasket adhesive.  I also changed the oil filter and spark plugs.

I bought some black gloss spray for the radiator bracket and gave it a couple of coats.  I fixed the bracket to the chassis with 3 rivnuts (I opted not to use two of the holes I made in the bracket to keep the 9mm hole needed for the rivnut away from the suspension.

Old spark plugs... Probably didn't actually need changing.
