Decided to have a go at fitting the brake
master cylinder today (this is a Ford Sierra master cylinder that was part of the donor pack from MK). Started by
putting masking tape on the bulkhead, held up the master cylinder, marked the
two holes and drilled them with a 3mm pilot hole. It was at this point I realized that in the
vertical position, the bottom outlet from the master cylinder would be obscured
by the chassis rail.
A bit of research on the Locostbuilders
forum told me this was a common issue with the Indy R. Someone had tilted their master cylinder
slightly, someone else had made an aluminum packer.
I decided to go the packer route as it had
three advantages…… It lifted the outlet
away from the chassis rail giving enough room to get the fitting in, it levels
the reservoir and allows better brake ratio by allowing the push rod to be
fitted further down the brake pedal.
I made a packer from several pieces of 3mm
steel plate welded together which would have done the job, however it looked
awful. I have decided to remake the
packer from a block of aluminum.
